Admission to CI rehabilitation for adults
Since November 2011, we are officially approved by the Council of Berlin's Health Insurance Funds for CI rehabilitation treatments for adults. In the meantime, the CIC Berlin-Brandenburg looks back on 12 years (Registration year 1999) of successful integral rehabilitation of children and adolescents, who had one or increasingly two cochlear implants.
The concept of predominantly outpatient care is still preferred by the families of children and adolescents. This is because such care allows for a regular, prompt and flexible adjustment of the measures, adapted to the individual rehabilitative needs and social context and conditions of the families.
Since 2006, after surgical cochlear implantation in some individual cases adults received treatment at the CIC Berlin-Brandenburg upon approval by the respective health insurance companies.
The referrals were either from the health insurance companies themselves or from clinics cooperating with the CIC. During the last three years, adult CI users have increasingly contacted us directly because of positive reports about rehabilitation within self-help groups. They also obtained health coverage from their insurance companies for follow-up treatment at the CIC Berlin-Brandenburg.
These experiences, along with a conclusive integral rehabilitation process towards the rehabilitation of adult patients after surgical cochlear implantation, resulted in the recognition of our service in the form of official approval last November following extended constructive negotiations with Health Insurance Associations and the support of the Medical Service of Health Insurance Funds.
